Nicaragua Building

The floor plan of this building was largely determined by the fact that it stands, abutting its neighbouring buildings, on a small, north facing corner plot on Carrer Nicaragua with no access to the inner courtyard. The staircase and bedrooms overlook the rear courtyard to make the most of the south light, while the ingenious arrangement of the exposed brickwork of the main facade mean that the living room is illuminated by east-west light. The building is crowned by an attic apartment -the architect’s own home for almost 20 years- on three levels, with a swimming pool on top of floor. The quality and careful arrangement of the brickwork and tiles exceed expectations of an industrialized building, which features a wide range of formal options of remarkable artistic force.
